It happens to all of us! We go on holiday, have an amazing time, good food, few too many cocktails and live the dream. Then suddenly... back to reality. 

You have worked all year for your 'summer bod' making sure you feel great when you're away, but when you come back that motivation seems to slowly disappear and bad habits come back. Before you know it you have had three weeks off the gym and your food shopping is kind of all over the place, sneaking them treats back in the basket! 

Here are my TOP TIPS...

1. Do the worst thing first!!!

So after a recent trip to Berlin, the thing I did not want to do when I got back was the washing. I actually hate it! Now you might think, what on earth has this got to do with my healthy lifestyle. Well it has! If you leave that job that you are dreading, sitting in the corner, hiding away for a rainy day. Its taking up brain space! Its bugging you and you will do lots of pointless things to avoid it. YOU NEED A CLEAR MIND! Whatever that dreaded job is, do it when you walk in the door! Then you have no excuses to get back on track straight away...

2. A healthy food shop and easy peasy prep!!!

Whether you have the full day or half an hour when you get back from your holiday put together a big pot meal like a bolognese, chilli, curry or rice dish packed full of veggies and goodness. Something you can eat that night which will give you lots of energy ready for going back to work or back on them school runs, and get you ready for the gym! This will stop you from snacking, binging and grabbing bad food on the go! This will also save you some pennies... Perfect after the holiday spends! 

3. Get back to the gym ASAP

Last but not least, this is probably the most important point in my list! Getting back to the gym and into your healthy lifestyle after a holiday is one of the hardest things to do and as you all know the longer you leave it, the harder it gets and before you know it you have had a couple of weeks off! 

Book in a class, Personal Training session or gym session with a friend that you know you won't be able to get out of. Don't stress about it, just get in the gym doors and let someone else tell you what to do and leave feeling amazing! We have all had them sessions where the gym is the last thing you want to do, then you leave feeling like a super hero. This is just another one of them! As a Personal Trainer I always hear from clients that they are worried about coming back into the gym as they will have 'lost their fitness' or 'sweat too much' - all you need to think is the longer you leave it the worse it is going to get... so just go in and SMASH IT!!! 

4. Do something you love

Post holiday blues is such a big thing and everyone feels so down in the dumps, but there are so many positives of being home! Surround yourself with your friends, family and do something you really enjoy. That reminds you of home, that makes you smile. It can be as simple as walking your dog or going to your friends for tea. 

My favourite thing to do on a sunny evening is walk my dog Ernie around the canal where we live. Soon washed the holiday blues away...

Don't let them holiday blues beat you, don't just work for a summer body, keep that healthy lifestyle up and feel good about yourself :)
